KOGAN CON COVER ART AND BADGE ART CONTEST RULES AND TERMS

Deadline

All cover art submissions must be submitted by June 10th, 2024. Decision to award Artist will be announced on June 11th, 2024. Final, finished artwork must be submitted by June 17th, 2024.

Terms

The Artist: The person submitting and is to be considered for cover/badge art submissions or the person who has been accepted to be the artist of the front cover or event badges.
The Convention: Kogan Con, which will be held on July 6th, 2024, at the Central Park Place, in Grand Haven, MI.

Rules
  1. Art submitted must be 100% original work by The Artist.
  2. Kogan Con is an all ages event and all art displayed and sold must be PG13 or cleaner. Artists who overtly violent and/or sexual/sensual materials will not be considered for Artist Alley, and artists who bring overtly violent and/or sexual/sensual materials to sell at the show who happen to get through the application process will be escorted from the property with no refund of their booth fee as this will be considered a breach of contract. Strategic/artistic nudes are considered to be sexual/sensual materials. If you have any questions, please email artistalley@kogancon.com
  3. The Artist is subject to the same rules, guidelines and regulations for their art and booth space as detailed in our Artist Alley Regulations, whether they are chosen for the cover art or not.
  4. Art submitted must meet the announced theme/requirements, as judged by Kogan Con.
  5. All artwork submitted for the contest will become property of Kogan Con. The Convention may distribute a package of said artwork to the Artist to sell at their booth, at The Convention; however, subsequent artwork may not be reproduced and sold for a fee. The Convention will be permitted to distribute and/or sell any remaining stocks of The Artist’s submitted artwork ad infimum, but is not allowed to reprint any materials without expressed written permission from the artist.
  6. The Artist has no rights to the use of any Kogan Con Mascots, Logos, original artworks or other presented likenesses outside of this contest.
  7. Your application will not be counted toward an artist alley space if you are not accepted for the cover contest, so make sure to apply for artist alley as well. 
Art Presentation
  • Artwork can be either a color or black and white conceptual drawing (either sketch or digitally reproduced), and need not necessarily be a finished product.
  • Artwork should be submitted on a digital medium, in PDF or JPEG format.
  • Artwork should be submitted in:
    • Portrait print perspective scaled to 5.5 x 8.5 inches for the event booklet
      Landscape print perspective scaled to 4 x 2.75 inches for event badges.
    • Each Artist should submit two similar finished pieces from their portfolio, so we may see some of your completed artwork. Portfolio artwork may be submitted in PDF or JPG format in the same form.
    • All background artwork depicted should be representative of a location or “landmark” found in Grand Haven, Michigan. See examples here.
    • Characters do not not be original, but any legal, licensed character MUST be an artist representation and cannot be a copyrighted image of any kind.
    • If the Artist is awarded the contract, all final artwork must be submitted in JPG or PDF format, in a CMYK color scheme.
Art Submission 

All artwork must be submitted in the Kogan Con 2024 Cover Art Contest Form by the above deadline. Make sure to include your current website/portfolio, email and phone number. No snail mail submissions as they will not be accepted.

Compensation

The Artist will be provided a guaranteed Artist Alley booth space at the Convention. The fee Artist paid for the booth will be returned to The Artist, if any paid.
The Artist will be given a premium booth in the Artist Alley.
The Artist will receive twenty-five (25) copies of their artwork professionally printed on cardstock for sale at their booth (Artist keeps 100% of their sales).
The Artist’s final work will be used on the front cover of the convention informational booklet, and in select advertisements.
If the Artist chosen willingly chooses or is unable to attend Kogan Con, The Convention is not liable to compensate The Artist for any lost time, money, supplies, etc. related to the participation in this contest.

Use of Submissions 

The Artist’s final work will be used as…

  • Event Cover Art: the front cover of the convention informational booklet, and in select advertisements.
  • Badge Art: On Kogan Con distributed event badges for attendees, vendors, artists, guests, staff, etc.
  • Artwork will have logos and text added to it as part of advertising in print ads, posters, postcards, etc.
